DORMS
Dorm rooms are charged by bed space. For a SINGLE dorm room (ie 1 bed in a room), the charge will be $40/night. For a DOUBLE dorm room it will be $35/night PER BED! So, if you are sharing with another person, you each pay $35/night. If you choose a double room for you and a couple of kids and thus want both beds, it will be $70/night. Dorms are single sex, please arrange to share with someone of the same sex. You are responsible for providing or creating a safe sleep environment for your baby (ie pack n’ play, space with mom, etc).
Linens are not included and can be added for $25/bed
Pillows are not included and can be purchase for $5/ea
You may of course bring your own linens and pillows. Or, wraps make lovely pillows/blankets.
HOTELS
Because we are arranging for dorm availability, we have not reserved blocks of rooms at any hotels, however see the comments for a few hotels some attendees are using. For a little bit of reference, the Brookland-CUA stop on the red line is the one for the conference. You can reference the Metro map here. Heading out toward the MD suburbs will likely net better prices. For most central locations, somewhere near Metro Center or Gallery Place gets you access to several lines. The Dupont Circle area is very artsy, lots of galleries and nightlife if you’re coming without kids. Cleveland Park and Woodley Park are both walking distance to the National Zoo (lots of options around there, more than highlighted here). I probably would avoid the RI Ave – Brentwood/New York Ave – Galludet station areas.

Do most people stay in dorms or in hotels?
There will probably be an even mix of dorms, hotels, and staying with friends/family.
I would love to book 2 dormrooms for 4 people. How do I do this.:) thanks in advance for the help
Becca
This is on my list for this week to see if there is a better way to do this. Right now if you read the information about the dorms and add up the prices of exactly what you need, you can paypal us whatever your cost is for the number of days, etc. As you can see, this is clunky and I’m hoping for a better solution soon.
What is available food/restaurant wise? Nearby Whole Foods?
Also, are there mini fridges?
I don’t think so on the fridges. There is a small kitchen facility. The nearest Whole Foods isn’t very close: http://wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/store-list/?zipcode=20064&source=header&x=0&y=0
There is a food court available on campus. I’m not sure what is right around there, it is on my list to ask a friend who went to school there.
What about grocery stores? Is there a close (walking distance) store I could get some food stuffs?
There is apparently a convenience store on campus, but sadly, it seems that this is one of those “food desert” areas discussed in the media. This is a doc CUA has for their international students. It seems everything is a metro stop or 2 away:

Ooo, this is better, it gives a map. I think these aren’t neccessarily big stores, but it gives you an idea of what is nearby: http://www.washingtonpost.com/real-estate/neighborhoods/Catholic%20University,DC-amenities.html
If you’re planning to stay in a hotel: there are other conference attendees booked at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center, 775 12th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005 and at the Hampton Inn Silver Spring, 8728 A Colesville Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Join us!
The Hamptons has a pool, so my DH votes we stay there!
